Easy 3 Digit Multiplication Trick for Competitive Exams - Vedic Method


Dear Aspirants,
3-digit number multiplication calculations is time taking in the normal method, by this Vedic Urdhvatiryak method of 3-digit multiplication is easy to calculate & takes less time but regular practice is important. In competitive exams like Banking exams and SSC, time management is very important. For speed multiplication, this method is very useful and easy.
Let's start to understand this method.

    3-digit by 3-digit number multiplication

    First, we take Ex.1) 312 × 145

    Step 1) Arrange it as shown below


    Step 2) In the next step do some calculations given below

    Step 3) Above numbers are multiplied as per the direction shown, after this add those numbers as shown below


    Always write in two-digit numbers in resultant like in left-hand side 3 is written as 03.

    Step 4) After that addition method is given below


    Starting from the right-hand side in number 10's unit digit no. 0 is directly placed. After that tens digit no. 1 will be added on next no. 13 which will give 14 then again unit digit no. 4 is placed below and tens digit no.1 is further added on next number 21 and the process goes on till the end, as shown above.

    So, 312 × 145 = 45240

    Also by this method, we can calculate 2×3 and 3×2 numbers multiplication.


    2 Digit by 3 Digit Multiplication Trick

    Ex. 2) 23 × 658 

    In this 2-digit by 3-digit multiplication, we have to make this 3-digit by 3 digits so we can write this also 023 × 658 now we start further calculations.


    So Ans. is 151

    By practising more we can calculate within a few seconds, let's take another example and do calculation a little bit in mind.

    3 Digit by 2 Digit Multiplication Trick

    Ex. 3) 731 × 56 


    In these 3 × 2 Numbers, we have to make like this 3 × 3 Numbers so we can write this also 731 × 056 now we start further calculations

    So Ans. is 40936

    Remember always write in two-digit numbers in resultant like in right hand 1 × 6 = 6 but it is written as 06.

    Squaring of 3 Digit Number

    We also do 3 × 3 digit square by this method.


    Ex. 4) Square of 512

    we can write it like 512 × 512


    So, a square of 512 = 262144
